Rafting that brings the whole group together

A group trip is a different kind of planning problem. You are not booking for yourself, you are booking for everyone, and the thing you actually want is simple: a day where the whole group has a great time and nobody feels left out. The Pigeon River is built for that. One guide, one raft, a mix of calm water and real rapids, and a day your group keeps bringing up long after.

Groups have been doing exactly this with us for years. As one organizer put it after a big trip: “Everyone in our group of 25 family members immensely enjoyed the experience and will be talking about it for a long time to come.” (Carson Fred, verified Google review.)

Who books group trips

Every group wants something a little different from the same river. Here is how the day tends to shape up by type.

  • Corporate and team building. A shared challenge that is actually fun, away from the office and the usual icebreakers. Easy to organize, and the kind of day a team remembers.
  • Family reunions. The rare activity that works for the cousins, the parents, and the grandparents on the same afternoon. We scale the trip to the group so the wide age range is a feature, not a problem.
  • School, scout, and youth groups. A guided outdoor experience with experienced guides, full safety briefings, and gear provided, run by a team that has taken thousands of young first-timers down the river.
  • Church groups. A welcoming, all-ages day on the water that gives everyone a shared story to take home.
  • Greek life, wedding parties, and celebrations. Bachelor and bachelorette groups, birthday trips, and wedding-weekend outings looking for something better than another dinner reservation.

What your group gets

  • Scheduling built around your group. Tell us your dates and group size and we will work out the trip around them.
  • Group rates for 10 or more. Custom pricing based on your group and trip, quoted up front.
  • Trips matched to your group. Lower scenic float, Upper whitewater, or the Full-Day combo, chosen around your group’s ages and comfort.
  • One booking point for more than rafting. We can also line up zipline tours and horseback riding, so a multi-day group trip comes together through one contact.
  • Guides who handle the group. Experienced guides who split a large party across boats and keep the energy up for everyone. One guest traveling with a wide age range: “We had a group of 9 people ranging in ages from 8-66. We opted for the upper pigeon river and every person had a blast.” (Amanda Wittenauer, verified Google review.)

Which trip fits your group

You do not have to put everyone on the same water. We often split a group across trips and boats so the nervous first-timers and the thrill-seekers each get the right day.

  • Lower Pigeon scenic float, ages 3 and up. Calm, Class I to II water. The right call for groups with young kids or anyone who wants the river and the views without big waves.
  • Upper Pigeon whitewater, ages 8 and up. The bigger rapids. For groups ready for the full whitewater day.
  • Full-Day combo, ages 8 and up. Both trips in one day, the scenic float, a lunch break, then the whitewater.

A mixed group can do both: put the little ones and grandparents on the Lower float, send the older kids and the game-for-anything crowd up top, and regroup after. For a family reunion or a wide age range, that flexibility is the whole point.

Planning your group trip

Group bookings usually need a few details before we can quote, your group size, your preferred dates, and the trip or trips you are leaning toward. The fastest way is to call the office at 877-642-7238 or send the group form, and we will take it from there.

A timing note worth planning around: rafting runs on the Pigeon River’s dam-release schedule, with guaranteed release days through Labor Day and spring and fall trips depending on water conditions. If your group is looking at the off-season, check the release schedule, and keep in mind that our zipline and horseback options run year-round if the river is not running when you need it.

The outpost at Hartford has the facilities a group needs on either end of the trip: easy check-in, changing rooms, restrooms, and a photo station so everyone can grab the pictures afterward.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the minimum group size for a group rate?

Group rates start at 10 or more guests. For smaller parties, you can still book together through the standard trips.

  • Can a mixed-age group raft together?

Yes. The Lower scenic float is open to ages 3 and up and the Upper whitewater to ages 8 and up, so a group can split across the two trips and regroup afterward. Guides also divide larger groups across boats. Groups ranging from young kids to grandparents raft with us regularly.

  • How do we book and pay for a group?

Call the office at 877-642-7238 or send the group form with your size, dates, and trip preference. Because group trips are custom-scheduled and custom-priced, we handle them by quote rather than the standard online booking, so we can get the details right for your group.

  • When can groups raft?

The regular season runs on guaranteed dam releases through Labor Day, with spring and fall trips depending on water conditions. Off-season groups can book year-round zipline and horseback riding. Check the release schedule for current dates.

  • Can we combine rafting with other activities?

Yes. We can arrange zipline tours and horseback riding alongside your raft trip through one booking contact, which makes a multi-activity group weekend much easier to organize.
