Shane 8

Shane - Trip Leader

Shane has been working as a whitewater raft guide for 21 seasons. With certifications in Swift Water Rescue and Wilderness First Responder, Shane has the experience and knowledge to show our guests an exceptional time on the river. His favorite thing about being a guide: "Sharing the experience of the river with people and the camaraderie of the other guides and my co-workers at Big Creek Expeditions." Shane is a talented musician, graduating with honors from the College of Charleston with degrees in Jazz Guitar and Music and Composition Theory.

Darrell U 5

Darrell U. - Trip Leader

Darrell has 35 years experience as whitewater rafting guide with certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid. He is from Charlotte, NC. Darrell has one daughter named Maggie. He enjoys spending his free outdoors or playing music.

Fish 20

Fish - Trip Leader

Fish rafted for two years recreationally before he became a certified guide. He has now been professionally rafting on the Pigeon River for 14 years. He is certified in First Aid and CPR. Fish is in charge of our training program and ensures all of our guides are prepared to get guests down the river with ease. Fish is from Cape May, NJ. He enjoys water sports, hiking, riding motorcycles, rollercoasters, and going camping.

Jedi Mike - Trip Leader

Huey 4

Huey - Trip Leader

Huey is First Aid, CPR, and Swift water certified. He has over 20 years experience professionally rafting on the Ocoee and Pigeon River. He has also rafted recreationally on the Gauley and Nolichucky Rivers. Huey is originally from Ocoee, TN. His dog is Biggie Smalls and the love of his life! You can typically find Biggie hanging around our outpost!

"We had an absolute blast! Katie was our guide and did a fantastic job of making the easier rapids feel more intense and the more intense rapids feel exciting and fun! The front desk staff were super friendly. They kept your keys for you on a colored carabiner and let you keep the carabiner when you claimed your keys at the end of the adventure! A great touch! The new location was easy to find. I highly recommend the place for everyone!"

Willis 21

Willis - Guide

Willis is one of our most experienced guides with over 15 years of guiding on the Pigeon River. He is CPR and First Aid certified. You will most likely see Willis at the front of our trips running safety, as he has all the qualifications to be a top notch Trip Leader. He loves is job on the river because he feel it is an honor to take strangers down Class 3-4 Whitewater!

"You know a dream is like a river, forever changing as it flows, and a dreamer is just a vessel that must follow where it goes. You can sit upon that shoreline, ad say you are satisfied, or you can dare to chance the rapids and dare to dance with the tide. And believe me my friends, there is nothing so much worth doing than messing about in boats. Let's go rafting ya'll!!

Wayne 8

Wayne - Guide

"Wayne was our first guide and made such a lasting impression that when we returned 4 years later, we requested him again. He knows the river like the back of his hand and made sure we had a fun and safe time! The perfect 21st birthday adventure."


    Briggs - Guide

    Briggs has 27 years of whitewater rafting experience on an abundance of rivers. He has certifications in CPR and First Aid as well as being a Wilderness First Responder for 22 years. He thouroughly enjoys spending time outdoors doing things like rafting rivers, hiking, and moutain bikig. He is usually ccompanied by his dog, Polly The Rafting Dog", who enjoys spending her time outdoors as well.

    "This is an excellent activity. We went with our kids (7 & 9) for the lower Pigeon river tour. It was their first experience doing rafting. They enjoyed it and also enjoyed swiming in the river. Our tour guy, Briggs, was excellent and answered all my kids questions."

    Miranda 6

    Miranda - Guide

    Miranda has been a guide on the Pigeon River for 22 years now and is certified in CPR and First Aid. She is currently living in Cosby, TN. She has four children, two of which work here on the river with her (Gillian and Caeden). She also has a cat named BooBoo, a dog named Piper, and a bearded dragon named Jimi!

    Joan - Guide

    Joan grew up traveling all over the US, pilot/colonels daughter. She found peace in whitewater and the mountains that surround it. She has five years experience in river guiding and certifications in CPR and Swift Water Rescue. Joan is the mother of an amazing daughter, she loves to write and draw, hike, is a movie buff, and music fanatic. She is forever searching for different colors in the sunset.

    Mitch 3

    Mitch - Guide

    Mitch has been whitewater rafting for 5 years as a private boater and 2 years as a professional guide. He is certified in CPR and First aid. Mitch is originally from Hot Springs, AR. He enjoys canoeing, camping, hiking, and traveling in his free time.

    Ernie 5

    Ernie - Guide

    Ernie (Erin) has five years experience in canoeing whitewater and two years experience in professional whitewater rafting. She is certified in First Aid and CPR. Erin also has a degree in Accounting. She grew up in Northwest Arkansas. Ernie loves to spend time outdoors and traveling.

    "First time white water rafting and it was so much fun. Ernie, our guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of fun facts and answered all of my questions and made me feel very relaxed. Highly recommend!"


    Gillian - Guide

    Gillian has been a checked out guide for two seasons with us on the Pigeon River. She has been rafting on this river her entire life with her family of raft guides. She is certified in CPR and First Aid. Gillian was born in Knoxville and later moved to Charlotte, NC. She has grown up playing recreationally soccer in school. She will be heading to Western North Carolina to study Forensic Science this fall!

    Caeden 6

    Caeden - Guide

    Caeden is a second year guide with us this year but has rafted the Pigeon River his entire life with his family. He has certifications in CPR and First Aid. Caeden was born in Knoxville, TN but has lived in Charlotte, NC for more than 10 years. He enjoys spending his free time playing soccer and listening to music. He has a black cat named BooBoo and a black lab named Piper!

    Elton - Guide

    Elton has over thirteen years experience has river guide on the Pigeon River. He is certified in First Aid and CPR. He spends his summers on the river and the rest of the year teaching. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Administrative Leadership. Outside of his work in the classroom, Elton enjoys triathlons and fly-fishing.

    Johnny B

    Jonny B - Guide

    Jonny B has 12 years experience in rafting and is CPR and First Aid certified. He enjoys spending his free time hiking, rafting, snowboarding, art, and sculpture. He has two dogs that are 1 and 11 years old, Shadow and Grandpa.

    Dylan - Guide

    Dylan has certifications in CPR and First Aid. He has been working on the Pigeon River for five years. He spends his time playing Collegiate Baseball when he is not out on the water.

    "Awesome experience on the river with Class III and IV rapids. Dylan was absolutely AMAZING and ensured that we had a great experience. He was very professional but entertaining as well. While the river was great, the experience was the BEST because of Dylan. Would definitely request for him to be your guide!"


    Jimmy "Freebird" - Guide

    Jimmy was apart of the U.S. Army and has certifications as a Paratrooper, Ranger, Airborne Air Assaults', Combat Life Saver, and Javelin Master Gunner. This is his second year as a river guide on the Pigeon River and certified in CPR and First Aid. Freebird is from Bullfrog Valley, AR."I was boating before I could drive, I could read water before i could read books, I taught Aquaman how to swim, and I resuscitated Poseidon"

    "The guide we got was incredible! Ask for Jimmy, or his nickname “Freebird”. He knew everything about the river, was funny— great with the kids, and made the experience so much fun."

    Alyssa - Guide

    Alyssa has been rafting and kayaking four years recreationally and this is her second year guiding professionally on the Pigeon River. She is certified in CPR and First Aid. Alyssa is from Gatlinburg, TN. She is married with two children, two dogs, and 3 fish. She loves to boat, hike, fish, and spend quality time with her family.
