As the Pigeon River comes out of the steeper parts of the gorge it calms down a bit. Beginning at our outpost, the Lower Section of the Pigeon River is perfect for those looking for a scenic float trip of the Smoky Mountains. Stretching 5.5 miles of river distance and lasting approximately 1.5 hours, this section is beautiful and relaxing with a sample of whitewater. Class I & II rapids provide a great introduction for those not wanting to go straight to the Upper Section. Minimum age: 3. No experience necessary. Take in the views, soak in some sun, and splash in the cool water on this ideal Smoky Mountain float trip.
Never rafted before? Don't worry. Guests are not required to have any previous experience.
The Pigeon River is dam controlled. Scheduled water release days are from April 30th-Aug 30th. Pre-Season and Fall rafting schedule is subject to seasonal rainfall. For more info, please call us toll free at 877.642.7238.
The time slot that you and your group reserve is your check-in time. No need to arrive any sooner. Shortly after the check-in time, you and your group will receive a brief orientation talk that covers some of the basics of rafting. Guests will then meet their personal guide and recieve the necessary equipment, including a PFD (aka life jacket), helmet and paddle. After your guide double-checks to make sure all equipment is fitted properly, guests then simply walk across our property to the launching point for your trip where your rafts will be waiting for you.
Each trip on the Lower Section concludes with a short 10-minute bus ride back to our outpost, where guests can take a warm shower and change into dry clothes. But, don't forget about the pictures! Each group has a series of photos taken. You and your group can check out your pictures in our outpost after your trip.
